Police form cordon ahead of Ant McPartlin's court appearance for drink-driving charge
Ant McPartlin is due to appear in court today charged with drink-driving.
The Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain’s Got Talent presenter was arrested and charged with one count of drink-driving following a three-car crash in London.
The 42-year-old will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court this afternoon at 2pm, following the smash on March 18.
In the hour before Ant was due to arrive, a huge security presence could be seen outside the court building.
At least seven police officers wearing hi-vis jackets and helmets waited outside the entrance for Ant to pull up in his chauffeured car.
And a host of photographers and reporters were gathered on the pavement outside the court for their first glimpse of the TV star.
If found guilty, the TV star could face up to six months in prison and an unlimited fine.
It’s been alleged that Ant was twice the legal limit when he was arrested.
His breathalyser reading was 75mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath – the legal limit is 35 mcg.
Ant was held after being involved in a collision with two other cars while driving his Mini in Richmond, south west London, on March 18, one of which was carrying a four-year-old girl.
It is alleged that the star “drove a motor vehicle, namely a Black Mini… after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in your breath, namely 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit”.
Ant was due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court at the beginning of the month but the case was put back.
His arrest came partway through the most recent series of ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
He announced he’d be stepping down from his upcoming TV commitments and the broadcaster said they were cancelling the following week’s episode.
His best pal and presenting partner Dec Donnelly, who is expecting his first child with wife Ali Astall, hosted the remaining two episodes alone, including the spectacular season finale at Universal Studios resort in Orlando, Florida.
It’s also been announced that Dec will host the live finals of Britain’s Got Talent alone, while Ant is still appearing in all of the audition shows, which kicked off last night, as they were recorded before any of this happened.
Dec’s solo hosting gigs have seen him working without his best friend, who he met on the set of Byker Grove in 1988, for the first time.
Fans watching the star present SNT alone for the first time said he seemed initially nervous, but praised him for his efforts and his bravery at going it alone.
Ant’s representatives did not want to comment when contacted by Mirror Online.
