A 70-year-old British woman was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a stabbing incident in Tenerife.

A second woman, aged 58 and from the Netherlands, is also in a serious condition as a result of being stabbed in the stomach, thigh and arm.

Details have only just been released about the incident in the resort of Los Cristianos, in Avenida Amsterdam, late last night.

A full police investigation is already underway.

It is believed the attack happened near a row of restaurants and bars in an area not known for trouble. The two women went to one of the premises and asked for help.
