A teenager was shot in a busy residential street as children played, stunned neighbours have said.

The shocking attack happened in broad daylight in Manchester.

The teenage boy was blasted three or four times in the Newton Heath area of town, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Police have confirmed he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

One eyewitness said his grandchildren were out playing when they heard a commotion in a house nearby.

He said: “You could hear screaming and shouting. One of the lads came out, and then the other lad came out shooting at him. There was a bang.

“I was worried about my grandkids. My grandson was out there playing. He came flying into the house, he was terrified. He couldn’t stop shaking.

“He came in shouting ‘it’s all gone off grandad’.”

Another neighbour said she was walking back from the shops with her children when she heard the ‘pop, pop, pop’ of a gun going off.

The mum said: “I ran inside with the kids. It was scary. It’s awful that it happened during daylight, there were kids running about.”

Part of the road was sealed off by police following the shooting, and a cordon remained in place on Saturday afternoon.

It’s unclear at this stage whether anyone has been arrested.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: “At 5.15pm on Friday, April 13, police received a report of shots fired near Scotland Hall Road.

“A man was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.”
