Did David Luiz headbutt Burnley’s Robbie Brady? Chelsea defender appears to lose it during disastrous first half
David Luiz could find himself in trouble with the authorities, after he appeared to thrust his head into Robbie Brady during Chelsea’s disastrous opening game of the season against Burnley.
With his side 0-3 down after a remarkable first 45 minutes at Stamford Bridge, the Brazilian defender seemed to be on the verge of losing his cool.
As the half came to an end, Luiz got into a heated exchange with Brady.
Holding the match ball under his arm, Luiz angrily approached the Irishman, and leaned into him with his forehead.
Referee Craig Powson was quickly on the scene to separate the two, and deemed the incident unworthy of any further action.
The Blues centre back lunged in for a high tackle on Burnley winger Steven Defour.
Cahill, who took the armband off John Terry this summer, saw red from Craig Pawson after just 14 minutes.
Cahill surged forward before a heavy touched forced him to jump in on the Belgian winger.
It was the England star’s first red card since December 2012 when he was dismissed against Corinthians in the FIFA Club World Cup final.
