Girl, 9, Found Dead ‘by Child Who Thought She Was Sleeping is Niece of Glasgow Curry King’
A nine-year-old girl found dead by another child who thought she was sleeping is believed to be the niece of a top Indian restaurant boss.
The schoolgirl’s body was found at her home and an adult then tried to wake her, but she had died in her sleep, a grieving relative said.
Police have launched an investigation into the “unexplained” death of the girl, said to be a family member of Scottish curry king Satty Singh.
An uncle told the Daily Record that it was an “awful tragedy” and the family are awaiting the results of a post mortem to find out how the child died.
Police were called to a Victorian semi-detached property on Glasgow’s Dumbreck Road at 2pm yesterday, and forensic officers remained there through the afternoon and early evening.

Devastated family members of the Sikh youth hugged and cried in the garden of the property.
An uncle, who didn’t want to be named, said the girl had died in her sleep.
He said: “The family are devastated, she has simply passed away in her sleep.
“She is a close relative of Satty Singh, but I don’t want to give all the names without the consent of the parents.
“There is nothing suspicious, the police are doing their job, they need to investigate these things.
“She has actually been discovered by another child who has thought she was sleeping.
“An adult has tried to wake her and found she was unconscious, perhaps from some seizure.
“It has just been an awful tragedy that nobody could help and the postmortem will show that.”
Mr Singh, 48, is famous for his Mister Singh’s restaurant chain.
In 2005 the Rangers fan became the first Asian person to hold the position of Director of Rangers Youth Development Fund.
The entrepreneur is also well know for his charity work with Mary’s Meals, and has set up a golf academy.
After the body was removed dozens of family members could be seen coming and going from the neighbouring house – thought to belong to close family. Mr Singh’s sons Oleg and Mark are listed as residents at the property.
A white van arrived and around a dozen black prayer mats were taken inside.
Police Scotland last night said the death of the nine-year-old was being treated as unexplained while they attempted to establish the exact cause.
A post mortem examination will be carried out and a report sent to the procurator fiscal.
