Manchester City have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

The charge relates to their players' response to Michael Oliver's decision to give a penalty, from which James Milner gave Liverpool the lead.

Several City players surrounded the referee after Gael Clichy brought down Roberto Firmino.

City will have until Thursday evening to respond to the charge.

'Manchester City have been charged with misconduct after the game against Liverpool on Sunday [19 March 2017],' said an FA statement.

'It is alleged that in or around the 50th minute of the fixture, the club failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.'

The charge is the latest in a spate of similar incidents over recent weeks, as the FA looks to clamp down on teams who harangue officials.

Hull City were fined £20,000 after their players surrounded Mark Clattenburg to demand a red card against Arsenal last month, while Oliver bore the brunt of a similar protest from Manchester United after he sent of Ander Herrera in their FA Cup tie last week. United also received a £20,000 fine.
