Arsenal's senior players want Arsene Wenger to sign a new contract and stay with the club beyond the current campaign despite a disastrous run of results, claims Olivier Giroud.

The Gunners are in the midst of their worst run in Wenger's 21-year reign, losing four of their last five Premier League matches, with their latest coming against West Brom as a banner reading 'No New Contract #WengerOut' flew overhead.

Despite the growing unrest among the fans, French striker Giroud has claimed that the players are eager to see the 67-year-old sign that infamous contract extension, saying they want to 'continue the adventure' with him.

Giroud told Canal+: 'We want to see Arsene Wenger sign an extension. To continue the adventure, because we support him.

'We hope to win the Cup and qualify Arsenal for the Champions League.'

Whether or not Wenger will be at the club next season does not appear to be in much doubt. He told reporters at the Hawthorns that he had made a decision on his future at that it would be announced 'very soon'.

Sportsmail understands that he has already decided to stay at the club but the same cannot be said of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Arsenal's two biggest players will enter the final year of their respective contracts this summer and it is looking more and more likely that they will agitate their way out of the Emirates Stadium.

Losing them would be a massive blow for the Gunners and leave Wenger with a team to rebuild over the summer, but Giroud appears to suggest a core of players are willing to remain at the club and fight for Wenger next season.

However, it is understood he has still not ruled out an exit when his contract expires with a finish outside the top four and failure to win the FA Cup likely to lead to extensive soul searching.
