A paedophile's wife has been jailed for intimidating her husband's teenage victim in a bid to stop her giving evidence against him.

Azad Miah, 37, raped, abused and prostituted a vulnerable 14-year-old with severe learning difficulties.

Before his trial at Oxford Crown Court, his wife Leanne Cox, 25, set up a fake Facebook account and bombarded the girl with threatening messages.

She told the victim 'watch yourself' and warned 'I will find you' if she gave evidence against her husband.

She also accused the victim of 'destroying people's lives' and claimed the allegations against her husband were false.

Her defence lawyer said she did this to protect her husband who 'groomed' her during their Islamic marriage.

The victim, who cannot be named, almost pulled out of the July court case saying she was 'upset' and the whole experience made her 'feel ill'.

But she bravely went ahead - giving her evidence over a video link from another city as she was too scared to go to court.

Miah, 37, and his cousin Salik Miah, who also raped the girl, were jailed for a total of 23 years in July.

Their trial heard how they plied their victim, who was in care, with alcohol and cocaine and told her 'everything will be fine' before raping her.

The men lured their victim into an empty house, raped her on a 'dirty bed' before selling her body to others to abuse her further.

Jurors at Oxford Crown Court heard how the then 14-year-old victim was left feeling 'frazzled' and 'disorientated' after the cousins abused her at the abandoned house in Iffley.

Cox has now been jailed for 15 months at the same court for witness intimidation.

She changed her plea to guilty two days into a trial earlier this month.

Judge Peter Ross told her: 'Behaviour such as yours is corrosive to our justice system.

'It was designed to prevent an appallingly abused complainant giving evidence in an important trial.'

He added: '[The victim] showed considerable courage.'

The victim, now in her 20s, told the court: 'I was very scared on the days leading up to the trial and the whole experience made me feel ill.

'Giving evidence was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.

'It made me upset and I was close to telling the police I did not want to go through with the investigation anymore.'

Cox, from Oxford, had initially lied about being in a relationship with Miah, despite having an Islamic marriage with him.

Defending, Ann-Marie Talbot said: 'She presents as a very young person - younger than her own age and knowledge.

'I think there is, quite likely, an element of grooming in their relationship. She was trying to help someone she loves.'

Cox was also subjected to a restraining order.
