Sir Alex Ferguson will grace the touchline at Old Trafford with his managerial presence once more with the Manchester United legend to take charge at Michael Carrick's testimonial.

The most successful manager in United's history expressed his excitement at getting back out there and hailed Carrick's 11-year contribution to the club.

Ferguson told MUTV: 'I think the best bit will be seeing the players, to be honest with you.

'No [I don't miss managing]. I miss the big games of course but I made my decision and I'm enjoying it.

'I don't have to worry about you lads or the agents or the press conferences and having to control that press secretary of mine!

'I'm delighted Michael is getting a testimonial. It tells you Manchester United are probably the only club in England that can do that. Players do tend to stay a long time here. We don't have players here one minute and gone the next.'

The match itself will be United's 2008 Champions League winning side against an All-Star XI.

Ferguson remembers the side that edged out Chelsea in the final with affection.

'It was a really great bunch of players with a great attitude about them and a good, strong squad,' he said.

He also spoke glowingly about Carrick's intentions as the midfielder plans to share his contribution with the newly formed Michael Carrick Foundation charity.

'I think he’s shown he’s prepared to share his success and his contribution to the charity, starting it himself, will be very, very worthwhile,' he added.

Ferguson will be pitting his wits against Harry Redknapp in the opposite dugout with the former Tottenham boss taking charge of the Michael Carrick All-Star XI.

Redknapp managed Carrick during his time at Tottenham and some high profile former players will also be involved in the game.

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard will both be a part of the big day, inclusions Ferguson feels will add signifincantly to the occasion.

'I think it adds spice,' said Sir Alex. 'I think it's much better having that than you choose a team, having to travel and you don't know whether a full squad is going to be there.

'If Michael's got guarantees these great players will appear, it will be fantastic crowd as it's a real attraction.'

Manchester United fans will get to see their side's former boss in action again on Sunday June 4 at Old Trafford.
