UPDATE Mount Jackson Poultry House Fire

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a massive fire at a Mount Jackson poultry house.

Up to 17,000 chickens died in the blaze that broke out Wednesday night. Here you can see what remains of the poultry house:

The fire broke out around 9:30 p.m. and killed all birds inside of the structure. Some of the poultry house was still smoldering Thursday afternoon.

The farm is located on Middle Road and is owned by Phil Bowman.

Firefighters used more than 20,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

The Shenandoah County Fire Marshal said the cause is not suspicious, but a private insurance company is trying to figure out how it started.
