A 33-year-old Hobart man will appear in court next year accused of raping and assaulting his partner, including an incident where he allegedly repeatedly slammed a car door into her stomach while she was pregnant.

The man, from the Hobart suburb of Lindisfarne, has pleaded not guilty to seven counts of assault, two of rape, and one of assault upon a pregnant woman.

He also pleaded not guilty to possessing 444 child exploitation images.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, allegedly carried out the attacks on his then partner over four years between September 2012 and September 2016.

It is alleged the man repeatedly slammed a car door on the woman’s stomach while he knew she was pregnant, forcing her stomach into the door pillar of the car at least three times in April 2014.

It is also claimed that in December 2012 he pushed the woman and then punched her in the right eye.

The court heard that in May the next year he smashed a toaster and a kettle in front of the woman and her children and then threw a bottle at her.

In another alleged incident later that year, the crown said he grabbed her by the throat, held her against a door and threw her onto stairs.

In September last year, the prosecution claimed he kicked his partner so hard in the back, that he caused her to fall out of the bed and hit her head.

He allegedly raped her once in September 2012 and again a year later.

The man has pleaded not guilty to all the charges and is on bail while he awaits his next court appearance in the Supreme Court in Hobart in February next year.
